What is Sleep Apnea?

Snoring is caused when the jaw opens and the tongue falls into the back of the throat, causing the airway to narrow and forcing air through the small opening. This creates vibrations in the throat known as snoring. Although snoring seems physically harmless, it can be a warning sign of a more serious and dangerous condition called obstructive sleep apnea.

Obstructive sleep apnea occurs when the airway completely collapses, blocking airflow to the lungs. The harder one tries to breathe, the tighter the airway seals. This airway obstruction persists until the brain partially awakens the person, unconsciously closing the jaw and returning the tongue and throat to a normal position. This process can occur 50 or more times per hour while asleep, and meanwhile not enough oxygen is being received by the body. If left untreated, sleep apnea can cause: memory problems, high blood pressure, increased risk of stroke, decreased life expectancy, weight gain, depression or irritability, difficulty concentrating, impotency, headaches, and daytime fatigue.

Replace Your CPAP

Don't bother with uncomfortable CPAP masks

Reduce obstructive sleep apnea episodes by up to 60% with the use of one of our custom oral appliances. Studies have shown that with this solution, sufficient oxygen is able to reach the lungs by keeping the air passage open throughout the night. Our patients have been excited by this non-surgical treatment that can replace a CPAP. These dental appliances are ideal since they are small, comfortable, and effective.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is sleep apnea treatment worth it?

Sleep apnea doesn't just cause annoying snoring sounds, it affects the quality and quantity of sleep you get every night. During an apnea event oxygen supply to your body is reduced by the relaxed tissues in your upper respiratory system. This can reduce your alertness, cognitive abilities, memory and has been linked to many other health problems.

Do I really need an oral appliance?

In many circumstances an oral appliance may not be necessary. When you visit us for your complimentary consultation we will provide you with an accurate, honest diagnoses. If you don't actually need an oral appliance we won't try and push you into getting one.

What is the difference between a CPAP appliance and the OSA device alternative?

Not all patients treating sleep apnea with the use of a CPAP appliance can comfortably maintain their treatment. CPAP appliances are uncomfortable, loud, and awkward to wear while trying to sleep. Many users simply stop wearing their appliances at night. The OSA alternative is much smaller, fits more comfortably and can provide the same treatment benefits.

Does insurance cover sleep apnea treatment?

Our wonderful staff will work with you to see if your insurance company will cover the dental implant procedure. In many cases, sleep apnea treatment may be covered by your medical insurance. If for any reason it's not covered, we will let you know and will work with you to develop a financial plan if needed. Our patients often tell us that it's completely worth the investment of their time and money to improve the quality of their sleep.

Will I lose anything by coming in for the free consultation?

Of course not. The consultation is completely free of charge. We are limited in how many consultations we can schedule during any given period - so make sure to schedule yours as soon as possible.

What payment options are available?

Yes, ask our office about financing options or payment plans. CareCredit® offers reasonable interest rates for patients who need to finance their dental care.
